My favorite memories of Phil stem from his earlier years as a photographic and general technological adept. He seemed to absorb everything like a sponge, and his sense of humour meant that working with him was rarely ever boring! Even at a young age, he’d been extremely well-read and very articulate. I’m pleased to see that in the years since, he’s clearly taken those traits to new levels.
Since everyone I met told me I should meet Phillip Smith, I finally emailed hime to meet and talk about Non-profit technology. I am so glad I did! Now if we could just clone him….
I met Phillip in the Seattle airport at 7am on April 27th, 2004. I was on my way to a CDC conference in San Antonio and he was returning to Toronto after business with Grist Magazine in Seattle. We saw each other across the room and fell fast in lust/love/friendship. After a 30 minute conversation that morning, we knew we had a future together. Now 2.25 years later, I am a Canadian permanent resident and live with my sweet Phillip in Toronto. Bless the Seattle airport!

Was at a meeting of east-coast progressive developers that happened in Toronto.
Chris was good enough to present a last-minute “speed geek” at a Social Tech Brewing event. Everyone was talking about his fantastic election and Google Maps mashup! Totally impressive.
I really don’t like Phillip at all, he’s got no ethics whatsoever and is only in it for the money ;-)
Serious now, I can trace quite a lot of the current (positive) run of my life back to the Social Tech meetups which Phillip organises out of the goodness of his heart.
